“OMG Sarah! I’m crying proper ugly snottery tears. There are literally hundreds of beautiful photos; I’ve never taken a nice photo in my puff, and my wee girl just looks perfect. Thank you thank you thank you. You’ve made us all so happy. We just can’t believe how lucky we were to have found Joy Story; your vision and style are just perfect for us. You’re definitely some sort of magician!”
– Vicki & Andy

Meet Vicki, Andy, and the ever so cute Lucie. This wonderful family had a bit of a time of it in the run-up to planning their summer 2020 wedding day – a pregnancy, a worldwide pandemic, a wedding postponement, and then a wedding re-booking. Phew! But all’s well that ends well, little Lucie arrived and was part of their wedding which, thanks to an easing of lockdown, was able to go ahead on their original date and I got to be part of it!

I’m a big fan of Kimpton Blythswood Square. A very grand Georgian townhouse that’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from Glasgow’s vibrant city centre. Inside it is modern, unique and filled with art deco touches and ever so colourful artwork. It also has a secret garden…ok, ok, it’s not that much of a secret as it’s bang in the middle of the Square but you do need a key to gain access so it feels pretty special, secret and private to me!

And it’s in that garden that Vicki and Andy said their vows in front of a handful of loved ones. They’d managed to book the hotel on a whim, originally COVID meant they’d had to postpone their wedding to 2021 but as rules and lockdown began to ease they decided to get married on their original date and became the first couple to get married in Blytheswood Square Gardens. Whoop!

I joined Vicki, Andy, Lucie and Vicki’s mum up in their hotel suite ahead of the ceremony. I love that however big or small a wedding the feeling in the morning, the buildup, is still the same. The air of anticipation, the joy, the giggles…if I could bottle up that feeling then I’d carry it around with me at all times!

Vicki and Andy threw tradition to the wind, they got ready together and then met up with the rest of their family down in the Kimpton bar for a quick drink before making their way over the road to the Gardens.

I’ve got to say, as ceremony locations go this one is a corker, a hessian aisle led to a beautiful tree under which a smiling Vicki and Andy said their vows. It was super lovely and super intimate. Lucie snoozed away during the ceremony before waking up with a big grin as her mum and dad were pronounced husband and wife. It was a VERY cute moment!

Post ceremony – and after hugs, laughter and a few happy tears (check out one of my favourite photos of Vicki and her mum in fits of giggles) we went back up to their suite for a toast, a few heartfelt thank yous and then a private meal. I was only with them for a couple of hours but it was a really lovely, chilled out and relaxed two hours. I don’t think any of us stopped smiling!

Vicki and Andy’s day is proof that whatever happens, as long as you’re surrounded by love and joy then you can’t go far wrong! Their original plans were for a beach wedding on the Ayrshire coast and they ended up with a Glasgow city centre wedding. I don’t think they would have changed it for the world, it turned out to be their perfect wedding day!
