When Two Musicians Get Married: A Cardney Steading Wedding

Musical Cardney Steading Wedding - Tricia & Kevin

“We’re over the moon with the photos, thank you so much! You were an absolute dream to work with and we’re totally in love with them! You’ve been absolutely fantastic through the whole thing. We’ve had several chats about how you have been one of the best suppliers we could have chosen for our wedding.

When two musicians get married you know their wedding is going to be all about the tunes!

Tricia and Kevin met through playing in bands together, and they wanted their day to reflect their love of music (and each other of course). Their friends played during the ceremony and then in the evening Tricia jumped up and played fiddle with the ceilidh band. It was so cool, and she absolutely rocked the place!

Weddings at Cardney Steading

Cardney Steading is a very lovely, exclusive use venue just outside Dunkeld. It’s so beautiful, with a backdrop of mountains and nearby lochs. You can’t get much more ‘rural Scotland’!

Nestled away on the Cardney Estate there’s a festival vibe to weddings there. What could be more perfect for the wedding of two musical types eh! Guests can stay in the onsite cottages and there’s plenty of nearby campsites for those who want the real festival experience (although with better toilets and less mud!).

I love the outdoor ceremony spots at Cardney, the lochside is just as beautiful as you can imagine and the ancient woodland is like something from Scottish legend. This is Scotland though, so even though it was April and we were keeping everything crossed for a bit of sunshine it was a wee bit too grey and chilly for an outdoor ceremony. No bother though, the candlelit Old Mill looked ace. It’s rustic and quirky, with old stone walls and high oak beamed ceilings.

Quick note though, while candles may look super romantic they aren’t the best mix with kilts. Bad idea! Candles lined the aisle, and looked fab as Tricia walked down with her Dad. Then Dad took his seat, and his kilt fell into the lantern and caught fire! Cue flames, a hero guest leaping to the rescue and a lot of laughter once the mayhem calmed down. Most dramatic start to a ceremony ever!

Rustic, festival wedding in Scotland

After the ceremony, and after loads of hugs and kisses from their pals, Tricia, Kevin and I braved the cloudy skies and got out and about for their photos. We had a stroll around the beautiful grounds, stopping off by the loch and making the most of those amazing mountains in the background.

We got back in time for Tricia and Kevin to chill out with their guests, before heading inside for speeches and food. The room looked amazing. The Cattle Shed is a real blank canvas and had been transformed into a rustic, cosy space complete with twinkling fairylights and colourful florals.

Tricia and Kevin’s friends and family are all fab, they were really up for a laugh and the speeches were absolutely hilarious. Shout out to Tricia’s bridesmaid who gave one of the funniest speeches I’ve heard in a long time. She kept cracking on that she fancied Tricia’s Dad and everyone was in stitches.

That hilarity and general feeling of mayhem led nicely into the ceilidh. With everyone there being either a musician or really into music the dancefloor was absolutely packed and the guests nearly raised the roof when Tricia took to the stage to play. What a legend she is!

The whole day was awesome, have a wee gander at the photos and then give me a shout if you’re planning your own Cardney Steading wedding (that also has a nice rhyme to it!).
