Ruth & Andrew didn’t let the weather dampen their bright & colourful Cruin wedding day at Loch Lomond
“Joy Story were brilliant from the moment we made contact with them through to delivery of our finished album. We got on really well with Sarah who is super organised and made us feel relaxed from our first meeting. Neither of us being naturals at having photos taken we surprisingly enjoyed our engagement shoot and got some fantastic pictures (including the dog) as Sarah put us at ease straight away. On the Wedding day itself Sarah captured everything perfectly and with no fuss at all – so many friends and family have commented on how amazing our photographs are, and how they barely noticed the photographers on the day! We love the album too, and can’t thank Sarah enough for capturing all the special moments.”
– Ruth & Andrew
Graduation is a time of celebration, woohoo uni is finished – Ruth was becoming a vet and Andrew a programmer. But what they didn’t know is that they’d also just met their future spouse at the grad ball at the Corinthian! Double celebration!! They also have the cutest lil pupper spaniel called Poppy who I got to meet at their engagement shoot yay (another reason to have an engagement shoot – so I can meet your dog! Erm I mean so you can get awesome photos of your dog, obv.)
Preparations
Ruth and her gals had a lodge on site, this is one of the things I love about The Cruin – lots of accommodation for everyone to stay over and party all night! Andrew had a great wee apartment in nearby Lomond Castle as well. Both within walking distance of The Cruin, ideal! The weather, however, was less than ideal. Not a howling gale but just a persistent rain unfortunately. But we didn’t let that hold us back. The good thing about Scotland is that it rarely rains ALL day… usually…
The Ceremony
Our lovely couple chose The Cruin as they had been to a wedding here and really liked it. I’m not surprised, I mean look at that setting for a start! Ideally they would have loved an outdoor ceremony (wouldn’t we all!) but it was not meant to be on this day so indoors we headed. It’s still lovely inside with the large geometric overhead skylights and windows letting in lots of lovely light. Their minister, Ian Miller, oh my goodness – I don’t think I’ve laughed so much. What a warm, funny, charming ceremony it was! Ruth and Andrew’s parents proudly looked on as they were wed and everyone was either crying laughing or just a bit teary eyed!
We loooove confetti shots but still the rain persisted. But bless the staff, they said we could do it… inside!! It was EPIC! (see above!) But when I was sitting eating my dinner and the poor staff were hoovering it up for 20 minutes I didn’t half feel bad! Worth it tho, eh? 😉
The Reception
One of their must have shots was to get a portrait with Ben Lomond behind them, who wouldn’t want that? The weather – that’s who, damn you misty low clouds *shakes fist*! Ruth & Andrew were total troopers and came out to play in the rain anyway, what’s a wee bit of water, they look like they’re having the time of their lives and I love it! As I said before, it doesn’t usually rain all day – and later on we got another chance to see wee Ben Lomond when it finally came out to play – yay! The Cruin also has a great wee walled garden for photos too, which makes another lovely option for portraits
The food at The Cruin is amazing! All the guests were talking about it. And in the evening there was further treats and fun from Porelli’s Ice Cream cart to ceilidh dancing with Grandpa Eddie to running down the jetty with all your mates, what a night! One last request they had told me about in advance was to get a photo under the fairy lit trees. It was still lightly raining and Ruth & Andrew were a little hesitant to go back out in it, but I promised them it would take 2 minutes and be worth it – and I think we all agreed it was (see last image – total fairytale romance vibes!).
Enjoy the images!
