Literally non-stop smiles at this Scottish Cypriot celebration of Antony & Fiona’s Maryculter House Wedding!
“Can’t I give more than five stars?? I could say a million and one amazing things about Joy Story, from the quality of their photos to their warm personalities. From the moment we met them, we felt like we knew them and they made us totally relaxed in front of the camera. They captured our wedding better than I could have ever imagined and I love that the story of the day is preserved so beautifully. If you’re looking for a photographer, don’t hesitate, these girls are the best!”
– Fiona & Antony
These two. Where do we even begin with how much we love these two? They are just the cutest, made for each other, goofy, silly pair – our cup of tea exactly! We are so thankful to have been involved with their amazing Maryculter House wedding. We also had lots of fun with them at their engagement session down at Aberdeen beach too!
Preparations
The groom preparations for Antony, were a smidge different to the usual. In a good, amazing, yass way. Hailing from Cyprus, his family and friends weren’t going to let him get married without the traditional Greek Cypriot marriage morning traditions!
At the groom’s house the “last shave” takes place and his best man (koumbaros) shaves him in the presence of his family and friends. The koumbaros then dresses the groom while musicians sing and play and his friends and family then wrap the red scarf around the groom’s waist as a symbol of his fertility. – Read More
Fiona and her gal squad got ready at Maryculter House in a gorgeous suite. The Autumn light was streaming in (photographer’s dream) and everyone was very chill and relaxed while they all did their own hair and makeup – immaculately!
The Ceremony
Fiona & Antony had decked out the ballroom of Maryculter House with cherry blossoms which looked fantastic! And the guests had arrived and were eagerly awaiting the ceremony – but not before Antony’s Dad and Brother gave everyone their pre-ceremony shots! God, I love weddings. What a way to kick off the celebrations!
During the ceremony, Antony gave some of the most beautiful and heartwarming vows I have ever heard, literally not a dry eye in the house! But there were plenty of laughs too, which is what I love about humanist wedding ceremonies – they’re all about you both and they can be as romantic or as funny as you’d like.
The plan was to walk back down the aisle with bubble machines blowing – but as we well know – weddings rarely go 100% to plan and the bubbles were not meant to be – dang technology! But the couple went with the flow – what will be will be!
It was October and unusually sunny so the wedding gods smiled on them in other areas. That light! Joy Story heaven. Gorgeous inside and outside we managed to capture some fantastic portraits. These two absolutely smashed it – when we could get Antony to stop winding Fiona up long enough to take a photo haha. We had such fun!
The Reception
After the portraits, it was time to head back inside to the guests and the party for cake cutting (with double cat cake topper) and dancing. Woah, was there dancing! At one point there was even a conga line! And a lot of floor slides going on.
Nothing tops the choreographed first dance though! Fiona & Antony put on a heck on a show that even involved a dirty dancing style lift and swing around!
Followed by more shots – Fiona didn’t seem to think too much of them though (see below).
What. A. Day.
Let the joy-fest begin…
