Rachel & David's Joyful Pratis Barns Wedding in Fife
“We are so happy we had you as our wedding photographer, you made the photo-taking so much fun! We wanted to create a happy and joyful environment on our wedding day and we picked you based on this. All the photos are brilliant and exactly what we were looking for, thanks again for everything.”

Scottish Barn Wedding Venue
Are you ready for a super cool barn venue, with a lovely couple and some well aimed bird shite? Yeah you are! And no, the last bit is not a typo. Read on…
Weddings at Pratis Barns, Fife
Firstly, let me wax lyrical about Pratis Barns. This was my first time shooting there and it’s so fab it’s quickly made its way onto my ‘fave venues with mega lovely owners’ list. No mean feat that I tell you.
This rural barn venue is just outside Fife and ticks all the boxes for me. It’s rustic without being too “farmy”. You’re definitely not tottering around the yard in your heels dodging muck, which is always a bonus. There are three converted barns and outbuildings along with a really nice cottage on site – Pratis House – perfect for morning prep. Loads of light, oodles of space and some pretty funky design features.
Nicola and Patrick Gilmour, the couple behind Pratis Barns, have a combined 36 years of experience in the events industry. So you know you’re in excellent hands with them! They purchased Pratis Barns in 2019 with a dream of creating a flexible wedding venue where everything could be run in house. The unexpected ‘quiet time’ that hit the wedding industry in 2020 gave them a chance to go to town on the renovations, restoring Pratis House and working on the outbuildings. By the latter months of 2021 they were up and running and managed to hold 46 weddings that year. What a team!
Alternative Fife wedding venue
I spent the morning with Rachel, who was hanging out in Pratis House and feeling rather giddy with excitement. Who can blame her, it was a beautifully sunny day and she was about to marry the love of her life. Bring on the giddiness!
Ceremonies at Pratis Barns are held in the oldest and most rustic of the three wedding spaces, The Stables. The former haybarn has retained some of its original features including wooden beams, exposed stone walls and huge barn doors. The addition of fairy lights strung from the hay nooks make the space super cosy and there are a few extra guests in the form of swallows nesting high up in the rafters. They swooped back and forth during the ceremony so, fair warning, if you have a phobia of birds this might not be the venue for you. Luckily no one got shat on during the ceremony 😂 Although Rachel’s lovely mum’s hat did take a hit later in the day. Secret second purpose of a wedding hat right there.
Shout out to Rachel’s lovely bridesmaid, Sophie who was multitasking that day. Sophie Rocks is a mega talented harpist who I’ve worked with on a number of weddings and she actually recommended me to Rachel and David (cheers m’dear!). Not only was Sophie doing a sterling job on bridesmaid duties but she also played during the ceremony. She’s ace!
Pratis Barns, award-winning Scottish venue
On their website Pratis Barns make a bold statement – “We know what makes a good party”.
Bold. But they’re also true to their word.
The Shed and The Byre, their drinks and reception spaces, are so spacious yet welcoming. They’re both blank canvases so couples can really stamp their personality all over and make it their own.
The day was super sunny so everyone spent most of their time outside, we’ve got to make the most of that sun when it shines on Scotland. Inside it was nice and cool which was a very pleasant surprise, and very welcome. Especially when everyone hit the dancefloor that evening!
So, to sum up, what an all round mega day. Pratis Barns, I can’t wait to visit you again soon. If you’re getting married there, give me a shout and let’s chat.
