Anne-Marie & Javier’s Confetti Filled Day at Their The Bothy Glasgow Wedding
“Sarah, we’re balling our eyes out, we love the pictures so much. You’ve captured the day perfectly!! I don’t think I can ever say thank you enough…if we do ever have our bigger second wedding with NZ and Spanish family we will be booking you, no question about it. Thank you again for making me feel like a beautiful bride and capturing our day ♥️”
– Anne-Marie & Javi
Heads up, you’re going to need tissues for this blog. Go grab some. And a brew while you’re up. Then head back and feast your eyes upon this sea of loveliness.
Have you got your tissues ready? There’s a lot of emotion packed into this page. So, let’s begin.
This is a feast for the eyes. So much creativity, so much joy, so much pure love. And I have to say, it felt like a whole load more than 16 guests. Anne-Marie and Javi sure know how to throw a party!
Weddings at The Bothy, Glasgow
The Bothy is one of my favourite wedding venues in Glasgow, it’s a hidden gem, a bolthole tucked away down a little cobbled street just a few steps from the mayhem of the West End. I couldn’t have chosen a place that more suited Javi and Anne-Marie. These two are down to earth, full of laughter and so warm and welcoming. Anne-Marie hails from New Zealand while Javi is a Spaniard with family in Newcastle. Unfortunately, Anne-Marie’s family weren’t able to be there in person but joined in via Zoom. Anne-Marie’s Dad had the honour of being my first virtual speech too. I was slightly nervous that a speech made over Zoom might not work or be able to be heard but I needn’t have fretted. The love and affection he has for his daughter just shone out of the iPad (you know what I mean!) and he said some utterly heartfelt words that had everyone tearing up.
The single most heartbreaking thing about weddings is when loved ones can’t be there. Javi’s Mum had sadly passed away a few months earlier and you could just feel the heartache and loss when he paid tribute to her in his speech. But his sadness was also filled with joy too and he loved looking at the photos of his Mum that were dotted around the venue. There were moments when both Anne-Marie and Javi were overcome with emotion but so much of the day was spent laughing, giggling together and thinking of their loved ones with fondness. It’s clear how much of their strength comes from each other and what a partnership they are.
Wedding portraits in Glasgow’s West End
It’s no secret that I adore Glasgow weddings. And that’s partly down to the people that you meet when you’re out and about for portraits. There’s nowhere else on earth that can make a newly married couple feel so darn special.
Anne-Marie was feeling very nervous about their portraits and when I suggested going for a walk down a busy street she nearly refused. She’s now so glad she did! We made our way to Ashton Lane, a wee cobbled street full of pubs and restaurants. Everyone sits outside and the atmosphere is just brilliant. Well, that crowd went WILD when Anne-Marie and Javi appeared. Whooping, hollering, clapping. They loved it. I videoed it on my phone as we walked and Javi and Anne-Marie were so happy they could watch it back. It’s moments like that that they’ll think of in years to come. And something that’s utterly unique to their day. Scroll right to the end to see!
I’m going to leave you with an email I got from Anne-Marie after she saw their wedding gallery. It made me tear up a wee bit. It made me remember why I do this job and why I love what I do so, so much.
