I’ve done a lot of adventure shoots and pre-wedding shoots in my time. Claire and Kevin booked me for my first ever ‘farewell Scotland’ photoshoot, and it’s safe to say that we all had an absolute blast.

Canadians, Claire and Kevin have been living over here, and recently got engaged. They were due to move back to Canada so decided to revisit some of their favourite Scottish landscapes and have a photoshoot there as a reminder of the places where they’ve had so many adventures. Love it!

Hiking and adventure photoshoots, Scotland

We spent the afternoon having a big old adventure together. We met up at the bottom of Creag An Tuirc, which is a craggy viewpoint with some pretty awesome Scottish history. It’s the ancient rallying place of Clan MacLaren, the point where the clan would gather in troublesome times. Legend has it that you could hear their battle cries from miles around. We didn’t test that, although I was a little tempted, I’ll be honest!

It’s a short, but pretty steep hike up the hill. There are some wee gems along the way though including a stunning waterfall and towering trees as you head through the forest. Finally, after a few stop offs for photos, we reached the top and took in the amazing views over Loch Voil. As Scottish landscapes go, this is a good ‘un!

By complete chance we’d chosen the most beautiful, sunny day for our adventure and could see for miles over the lochs and mountains. Lochearnhead and the area around Loch Voil has to be one of the most picturesque places in Scotland. No mean feat! It also helps that Monachyle Mhor is nearby which, as you’ll know if you’ve read my blog before or seen my work with Wee Wild Weddings, is one of my favourite wedding venues.

Lochside portrait shoot, Scotland

We strolled back down Creag An Tuirc, pausing for more pictures along the way. Then it was time to head to Loch Doine, the smaller of the two lochs nearby, for a photoshoot with a difference.

Claire and Kevin were determined to eke every bit of adventure out of their shoot, and I was completely here for that. There were some photos right on the shore and then before long Kevin and Claire were wading in, which made for some epic photos. Both of them are keen wild swimmers so we ended with a dip in the loch and a wee tot of whiskey afterwards to warm up. It might have been a sunny June day but let me tell you, that water was chilly!

Join me for an adventure photoshoot

Claire and Kevin have shown that you really can do anything on an adventure shoot. Hiking, swimming, paddleboarding…I’m here for it! If you fancy a stroll to your local pub or a wander around your favourite city then I’d love to join you. Stuck for ideas? Worry not, I’ve got your back! I love to get to know you both and can make suggestions. I’ve got a little black book of amazing locations!
