An Engagement Photographer in Edinburgh with Rosie & Fraser

After a whole load of recent adventure shoots I bring you, a very lovely and sweet engagement shoot with Rosie and Fraser.
This was a good ‘un, I don’t find myself in Edinburgh too often so it was great to visit the city and see it through Rosie and Fraser’s eyes. We avoided all the popular, more touristy spots and went off the beaten path. You all know how much I enjoy a good wander so this was mega!
Pre-wedding photography in Edinburgh
I met up with Rosie and Fraser at their house. I really like doing this for a pre-wedding shoot. By starting at home I can get some photos that really mean something to a couple. Plus I get to meet and hang out with any pets. Always a joy! Rosie and Fraser’s two cats joined us for a few photos. Truth be told, they may have stolen the limelight just a little, pulled some poses for the camera and then, in true feline style, sauntered off without a backwards glance.
Rosie and Fraser are super lovely and a little quirky. They wanted a shoot that really reflected them and their relationship and this felt really different and personal.
In the leadup to a pre-wedding shoot I always remind couples that the background doesn’t really matter. It’s all about you two getting used to the camera, seeing how I ‘pose’ (in the lightest possible sense) people and that the whole thing isn’t scary or formal in the slightest. It’s all about having a wander and a laugh together.
As you’ll see from the photos, we all just had a really good time. We ended up in Newhaven, a couple of miles outside the city centre. This beautiful wee place used to be a fishing village and is still packed full of character and colour.
Portrait photography in Newhaven, Edinburgh
We had a lovely explore together, wandering down to the shore and making full use of that stunning golden hour light. I was in my element with the harsh shadows, bright bold doors and, finally, that soft glow of the sunset. Newhaven is famous for its pint sized lighthouse, a bit of a local landmark, so we made sure to get that in photos too.
Fraser and Rosie absolutely love where they live – who can blame them?! – and I’m so pleased that we got to spend time there and get some photos of them together. They were both a little nervous beforehand, which most people are, but as we were saying goodbye Fraser said, “Oh this was not even a little bit as scary as I thought it would be” which was good to hear!
So, here’s a challenge for you, if you’re engaged and planning a pre-wedding shoot then think outside the box. Don’t just go for the epic locations or head to your wedding venue. Let’s take some photos somewhere that means a lot to you both. A place that really reflects you two and your lives together.
Sarah x
