You were a fly on the wall and also got involved and brought the energy! Haha. We love the photos and couldn’t be happier with the finished product. You were so fab! Thank you.”

Roodlea Barn wedding

This wedding made me cry. In a good way. We all got emotional and it was a moment

All of that emotion – the laughter, the tears, the smiles – is testament to what good people Laura and Andrew are, and to the wonderful friends and family that surround them. Everyone was just rooting for them to have the best day ever. You know what, they did. We all did.

Wedding photography at Roodlea Barn

Roodlea Barn is pretty new to the Scottish wedding venue scene. It’s been open for a few years and has quickly made a name for itself in and around Ayrshire. It’s a stunning barn conversion with rustic vibes. The space is super cool and I love all the decor. It’s so stylish with an open fireplace, vaulted ceilings and lovely old stone walls. The views are pretty amazing too, out over the golf course – yes, a golf course. Roodlea has its very own golf course and range, perfect for a bit of wedding morning entertainment. Andrew and his mates loved hanging out there in the morning and it made for some ace photos. Definitely not your typical groom prep!

While the men were busy hitting balls, waving clubs around and doing whatever you do at a golf range, Laura was enjoying a far less energetic morning. There’s a very chic and stylish dressing room in the Barn itself but Laura and Andrew had hired Roodlea House along with the venue. It’s a really good idea to add the accommodation onto your booking, the cottage is the perfect getting ready location. It sleeps up to ten people and is just across the road from the Barn so a nice, easy stroll to the ceremony (or a quick march under an umbrella if it’s a typical Scottish rainy wedding!)

Rustic wedding venue in Ayrshire

South Ayrshire is beautiful, the views out of the huge barn windows are amazing and there is so much countryside around the venue. Perfect for photos but, to be honest, this was the second wedding I’ve shot here and I’ve still not made it past the golf course to see the views over to Arran! I’ve never needed to head that far, there’s plenty around the venue for photos. As an added bonus Laura and Andrew were super easy to photograph. They just spent the whole time giggling away together and snuggling up. Perfect! Laura is a vet so of course she ended up feeding some cows for a photo. Very apt! Luckily she’d swapped her heels for a pair of comfy, personalised wedding trainers before we headed out for portraits.

The converted Barn is a blank canvas, couples can really put their own stamp on the place. Laura and Andrew had gone for bright, colourful flowers, and the table names were a nod to their love of mountains and the outdoors.

I knew it was going to be a mega dancefloor when I saw the bridesmaids changing into their Converse. I didn’t expect to have a wee cry during Andrew and Laura’s first dance though! Halfway through Andrew picked Laura up, spun her around and she was so overjoyed she burst into tears. Well, that set me off. In fact, it set everyone off! We were all blubbering wrecks! All those tears didn’t affect the energy on the dancefloor though, it was packed out.

The day ended with sparklers. And a pizza van. The way all good weddings should end in my opinion.

Enjoy the photos!
