Styled Winter Bridal Shoot at Rowallan Castle Wedding Venue, Ayrshire
I admit it, I am one of those people that actually loves the snow. Unfortunately, it never seems to lie in Glasgow but it definitely does in Ayrshire. So in early 2018, off we went to capture this beautiful styled shoot, kindly brought to you by the remnants of the Beast from the East, thanks pal!
Some people panic about the weather on their wedding day but the reality is that you can’t change it. Part of the skill of being a wedding photographer is being able to adapt to anything that mother nature throws at us, so be confident that we’ve got this and embrace it! I know lots of couples who would LOVE for a snowy wedding day, there’s a bit of magic about it and now you know where to find it – it lies in Ayrshire.
The main worry for anyone who faces snow on their wedding day is “will our guests get here?”, well in this case we managed to get to the castle no problem and it was worth it. Driving up to the epic scenery around Rowallan Castle gave me shivers – and not just from the cold!
Briar Rose Design
We had the dream team come together, all down to the talented Mel from Briar Rose Design, who was dressing Rowallan for its open day. Her work is incredible and she had the brilliant idea to make the most of it and have ourselves a mini shoot! She’s full of good ideas that one.
The fireplace in the ceremony room is a stunning focal point and Mel draped it in flowers and foliage. The style was natural and wild, using delphinium and seasonal flowers like tulips and ranunculus alongside wax flower to create a masterpiece. I just love her freestanding fireplace mini installation too! The colours of the greens and pinks looked so elegant in such a stately backdrop.
Our gorgeous model Kiran came along to the shoot with dress, shoes, hair and makeup all done (thanks Kiran – you’re the best!) so we could show you just how wonderful a winter wedding at Rowallan could look!
Mel, once again, worked her mad skills on the bouquet, which was a garden style that included beautiful scented lilac, roses, tulips, ranunculus, wax flower and viburnum and was finished with trailing habotai silk ribbon – which looks great with wildflower style bouquets like this one. It really brought the outfit to another level. An awesome benefit of having a professional florist on board your wedding team!
Rowallan Castle
Rowallan’s interiors are just as spectacular as it’s exterior with gorgeous high ceilings, massive windows, wooden panelling on the walls, old stone features and that beautiful parquet floor in the ceremony room. It makes the job of dressing the place up a pretty sweet gig.
Shooting in Rowallan Castle in the snow really showed the venue off and how romantic and dreamy it would be to have your white wedding there. We took some shots in the ceremony room before moving into the reception room which was dressed with Mel’s lush table arrangements as well. While we were there, some amazing winter sunlight streamed in through the old windows adding just a smidge more magic to the day!
That’s the thing about snow, when it’s here, often the sky is bright blue and cloudless so the sunlight is magnificent. We got some stunning shots outside on the steps and terrace with that sun dipping down behind the skyline to end the day.
The staff at Rowallan couldn’t have been more helpful as we moved around during the shoot, it is such a fab venue that we’d love to shoot there any day of the year.
Enjoy the photos!
