Jodie & David incorporated their love of rock music into their Chester Hotel Wedding in Aberdeen, and we got a rooftop sunset to top it off!
“Everyone was thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed their day. The two of you managed to mingle and have fun without ‘getting in peoples faces’. Haha. Your friendly demeanour and professionalism was our favourite part of having you as our wedding photographers. Hire Joy Story. They’re awesome.”
– David & Jodie
The lovely David & Jodie came to me via Jodie’s brother Mark whose wedding should have been this year but damn you COVID! So we won’t have that pleasure until 2021. But it means we get to hang out with all the same people again yaaaay! Love catching up with familiar faces, plus everyone is super relaxed around us, double yay.
Jodie & David have known each other for basically their entire adult lives and it was time to make this shit legit. And we’re so thrilled they had us along for the ride! Their music & metal themed wedding was so awesome, we had such fun with them and everyone there. And just like always – the sun shone on Joy Story resulting in an epic sunset rooftop session, whoop!
Preparations
Jodie had her brother Mark and his partner Dave (wedding coming 2022 yay!) as her amazing men of honour. I love it when couples break from tradition, because why the heck not?! Rules are made to be broken, right? They shunned traditional flowers and had these amazing metal flowers instead. Not gonna lie, that bouquet could kill someone, Jodie definitely had her work cut out for her holding that. Worth it though! And the metal buttonholes look so good as well, and a wee keepsake for the groomsmen & men of honour, perfect!
The Ceremony
I think David was quite shocked to see Jodie in a traditional wedding dress, but you know what? Some traditions exist for a reason because she looks flipping amazing in it! This might be the first Chester Hotel Wedding with a sand ceremony! It symbolises the blending of 2 people and that the grains won’t fall perfectly together but they’ll be beautiful nonetheless. I love that!
After the ceremony, everyone was able to mingle inside and outside due to the nice weather (in October! It’s us I’m telling yah). We snuck the newlyweds away for a wee couples shoot down the cute wee alleys behind the Chester Hotel finding some epic Autumn colours in the process, yass.
The Reception
The music and metal theme continued through to the reception decor. The tables were named after their favourite bands & albums, the favours were plectrums with their names on (cute!), and a bottle opener made from a cymbal part. Their guestbook was a drumskin to autograph – I love this idea!! Their cake was musically decorated, with llamas on top, and a surprise at the back. The music was to one of their favourite songs, Sonne by Rammstein – which is a fave of mine too!
Their band, The Franchise, were amazing – playing a mix of rock music and a wee bit of ceilidh too. They even played some Rammstein and sung in German. And they learned a song by Ghost just for David & Jodie. And I have now discovered Ghost so thank you for that!!
What an epic day! Enjoy!!
